NOTES FOR 8TH GRADE STUDENTS -- 3.20.2007

  • We need the new presidents pages completely set up by April 3rd. I need someone or a small group to make sure that happens so that we are ready to work with the 3rd grade on that day.
  • I asked for parent feedback on the pages. Here is what one of them wrote. I suggest that we address any concerns listed here:
  • Talk to Mr. Black about any new pages you would like to see after Indian Removal. There is a lot more content that we have covered.
  • Are there any new opinion questions to add?
  • read a few of the articles and here are my comments:
>
> Articles of Confederation
  • - Overall well written. A couple grammatical errors in first paragraph
  • or a word left out. The Problems and Powers were a good comparison. Good
  • conclusion.
>
> Judicial Branch
  • - Apart should be two words in the way it is used. Check grammatical
  • errors. Coverage and Categories are good. Under Term of Office, perhaps you
  • could reword "but if you really think about it" to sound more professional.
  • Wouldn't 1/2 be spelled out?
>
> Constitutional Convention
  • Very Good
>
> Opinions
  • I read some of them. The students seem to have thought out their answers,
  • which is great. It's also great that they have opinions on such questions.
>
> Colonial Development
  • - It might be helpful to mention the three colony groups in the
  • Introduction or under Immigrants to lead into it more smoothly and give it
  • more continuity.
>
> Steps to Rebellion
  • - Good information, but I think an introduction or summary would be
  • helpful.
  • Legislative Branch
  • - Incomplete thought or sentence in the second paragraph. Several typos
  • in the Duties of the Senate. Why aren't the current Congressmen listed when
  • the Senators are? Good explanation of this branch of our government.
